Sto Piv

Here are some stills from the set of Sto Piv, the project that I directed. It is a short film basically about murder in a beer brewery.

Preproduction for my project Sto Piv (100 Beers). We needed a lot of beer bottles, but the good news was that in the Czech Republic, it is very easy to collect beer bottles. But the fun part came when we had to take off all the labels, which needed a little work.

Playtime at Barrandov

So to get ready to shoot "Sto Piv", my interior project, we needed to get props and costumes and things like that, that really help make a movie. And luckily for us here in Prague and at FAMU, we have access to Barrandov Studios and their Prop and Costume buildings. And since me and my cinematographer were very active in our project, we went up to look over what Petra, our Art Director, found for us. Basically we had a lot of fun playing in the warehouses. But unfortunately we couldn't try on all the costumes. But we did also get a spend about another four hours hanging out with Panavision friends, which did include my Czech love, so overall it was a great day.

Havlíčkovy Sady

So one Saturday day, Caitlin and I had a magical time exploring some more of Prague. This time we were in the Vinohrady area, which is where they have come wine that is made in this part of Bohemia. But basically we found a beautiful park with grape vines, and old ruins.

Broken fence, overgrown plants, destruction. Another of my favorite themes.

It is also a doorway, so of course I liked it.

I think this will be some vino bar when it is built.

You know, just some old ruins with the modern buildings.

Really felt like it belonged more in Rome then Prague

Hanging Out with Friends

So here are some pictures from random nights and/or brunches that I thought I would group together. These either take place at Fosil, our favorite Mexican restaurant, or at Zanzibar, where we have been doing several group brunches. We have had to introduce brunch to our Czech friends, they really aren't big on breakfast here.

Kuks

To finish up our trip in Eastern Bohemia, we went to Kuks, were there is a gorgeous chateau, with some very famous statues by, at least I think they are by Giovanni Battista Alliprandi. Also in the forests around Kuks, there are these statues carved in the rocks out there, but we did not get a chance to see them. Instead we were able to join in the fun of the Saint Hubert Celebration. Basically it was a hunting festival, they had some booths out like any arts and craft festival, and then had some horsemanship shows, hunting birds, hunting dogs. And the food was delicious.

Josefov

After the Chateau in Nove Mesto nad Metuji, we went to an old fortress town called Josefov. It has been around since the 1700s or 1800s, I can't remember exactly. But anyways, it was just miles of an underground fortress with tunnels and little walk ways. It was extremely impressive, but unforuntately they would not let us take pictures inside. But I do have ones of the outside of it.

Nove Mesto nad Metuji

On the second day of our overnight trip to Eastern Bohemia, we started off in the town Nove Mesto nad Metuji, where we had also spent the night. We started off in an old chateau and we able to explore the grounds for a while.

There were these little statues all over the place. I like bears and I like that these were the first statues welcoming one into the chateau.

It used to be a moat.

Broumov and Ardšpach Rocks

So this is all from the first day of our overnight trip we took to Eastern Bohemia. It was a class trip that we ended up taking with one of our professor's friends, because our professor was sick. On the first day we went to an old monastery, Broumov Monastery, and then to an old forest called Adršpach, that has rock formations that look like people, animals, etc. It was formed back in the times when there was still an ocean over Europe.

This is the entrance to part of the Broumov Monastery. This is the monastery, or at least the back portion of it.

Location Scouting in Prague

So this was all from a day when Caitlin and I went location scouting for her exterior project.

Yes, this store really does exist in Prague. I've also seen a few other Confederate flags around.I liked it.

Petrin Hill and the Hunger Wall

So this was a wonderful day that Caitlin and I had an epic adventure exploring Petrin Hill. It was always something that we could see outside of one of our classrooms, so after that class we decided to finally go see it.

This is a memorial to all those who died and suffered during Communism.

It was a nice view starting to overlook part of the city.

This was when we finally began to approach our favorite thing on Petrin Hill...

The Hunger Wall. Or Great Wall of Prague as we like to call it.

Exploring Praha

Here are some pictures from some of my first times really exploring Prague.

This was a little pond in one of the parks near my apartment.This was also in that park. I'm not certain what it is, but I really liked the creepy look to it.

This is a really creepy Modern church, something like Church of the Sacred Heart.

This is the tv tower in Prague. It has these really creepy statues of babies without faces.

Kodak Week

This was all during the Kodak workshop held at Barrandov Studios. It was during the first week of classes, so instead of meeting our teachers and going to some classes, six of us were able to attend this. I think we got the better deal, we were able to play around with all this film and equipment and shoot whatever we wanted to. And we met some great people who work in the film industry up here.

This is Bastie, the Pana-dog. He looks absolutely terrifying, but is actually the sweetest dog.
